What it is

Variable-displacement vane pump driven by chain off the crank.

What it does

Pressurises oil to bearings, cam phasers and piston-cooling jets; map-controlled pressure saves power.

How it fails

Low oil pressure warning at idle usually means the solenoid, not the pump.
